DIEHARD Newcastle supporter Chris Dobey confronted Sky Sports commentator Stuart Pyke for interrupting his press conference with an “awful song.”

Dobey was passionately expressing his desire to become world champion when he was interrupted by a ringtone.

It was the long-time darts commentator Pyke who took the blame, as Dobey quickly identified the source of the interruption.

‘Hollywood’ was addressing reporters following his victory over Xiaochen Zong in the first round at Ally Pally.

He stated: “You want to be in the competition, you want to succeed. But above all, I want to be world champion.”

“I don’t just want to reach the semi-finals and quarter-finals – I’ve accomplished that. This is the next step; I want to be that world champion.”

“It’s not just about the million pounds [prize money]. While it's great to have the million pounds,…”

Dobey paused as a muffled ringtone, which sounded like the theme tune from Z-Cars – the walkout song for home matches – began to play.

The Geordie player remarked: “That’s Pyke’s phone, isn’t it? Awful song, that!”

After a brief laugh between the two, Dobey continued: “You want to be world champion. I’m still in the tournament and I’m just a few matches away.”

Although Dobey was not fond of the song, it was Pyke’s team that suffered the most in their last encounter just three weeks ago.

Defender Malick Thiaw scored twice in a match at Hill Dickinson Stadium, which Dobey surely enjoyed.

However, football rivalries will take a backseat for the 35-year-old while he remains in contention.

Dobey is only days away from a challenging second-round match against Andrew Gilding, who easily defeated Cam Crabtree in the first round.
