Netflix canceled its first show of 2021

It’s been a run of renewals for Netflix this year so far! We’ve seen Netflix announce renewals for Bridgerton, Fate: The Winx Saga, Ginny and Georgia and more. Unfortunately, Netflix’s first canceled show of 2021 has been announced.

The streak was bound to end sooner or later. By our unofficial tally, it looks like Netflix has renewed a dozen shows for new seasons, and the network has renewed Bridgerton, Too Hot to Handle, and Selling Sunset for multiple seasons!

Since Netflix started making hundreds of hours of original TV content every year, this has to be the longest Netflix has gone without a cancellation.

Netflix cancels The Duchess

Unfortunately for fans of The Duchess, the series has been canceled at Netflix, according to TV Line. The Duchess was created by Katherine Ryan, who also starred in the Netflix original series.

The series premiered on Netflix in September 2020. The first season consisted of six episodes.

While funny, it doesn’t sound like enough people watched the first season for Netflix to renew the comedy series for season 2.

Ryan announced the news on Vicky Pattison’s The Secret To… podcast. Here’s what Ryan said about the show’s cancellation on the podcast, via TV Line:

“Not enough people watched it. I think something like 10 million people watched it in 28 days, and that wasn’t enough.”

That’s pretty much in line with what we’ve heard about other canceled Netflix shows. While the streaming network doesn’t only take viewership into account, it’s one of the big reasons why Netflix chooses to cancel or renew its shows.

So, there you have it. There will be no The Duchess season 2 on Netflix.

With this news, we have wonder what the next canceled Netflix shows will be. There are a few shows that we’re worried about right now.
