The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has officially approved the 2026 Appropriation Bill, enacting it into law on Tuesday.

During the legislative session, lawmakers examined the proposal put forth by Governor Abdullahi Sule and increased the budget by N27.6 billion, raising it from the initial estimate of N517.5 billion to a total of N545.2 billion.

The Speaker of the House, Danladi Jatau, announced the passage during a plenary session in Lafia, the capital of the state.

It is important to note that Governor Sule presented the 2026 financial proposal, titled the “Budget of Strategic Consolidation,” to the Assembly on November 26, 2025, requesting legislative approval.

According to the Speaker, once the Governor provides his assent, the budget will establish the framework for implementing community-focused programs and projects aimed at enhancing the state's overall development.

Jatau praised the members of the House Standing Committees for their hard work and contributions throughout the budget review process.

He also disclosed that the N27.6 billion increase was made to account for current economic conditions, particularly the rise in inflation.

“In this upward revision, security votes and services in the office of the Secretary to the State Government and the Ministry of Special Duties, Security, and Sundry Matters received an additional N14 billion, while the Ministry of Local Government was allocated an extra N7 billion.

“The Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism received an increase of N3.7 billion, and funds were also allocated for the construction of the 55km Lafia-Kwandere-Garaku road, among other projects,” the Speaker elaborated.

He then directed the Clerk of the House to prepare and send a clean copy of the bill to Governor Sule for his assent.

The Speaker also urged the executive branch of government to ensure strict and complete implementation of the budget once it is enacted into law.

Earlier in the session, the Majority Leader, Suleiman Yakubu Azara, introduced the motion to pass the 2026 Appropriation Bill.

The motion was supported by the Minority Leader, Luka Iliya Zhekaba, after which the House unanimously approved the bill.
