Veteran entertainer, Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has reacted to the Lagos government’s decision to rename the popular Charly Boy Bus Stop in Bariga to Olamide Baddo Bus Stop, in honour of the rapper and Bariga native, Olamide Adedeji.

Reacting to the news in a chat with DAILY POST on Saturday, Charly Boy simply said: “Na dem sabi”.

Recall that the Lagos government recently changed some roads names in the state.

The announcement was made public during the commissioning of local projects in Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA) on Friday.

The outgoing LCDA Chairman, Hon. Kolade David Alabi, revealed the changes as part of his final acts in office.

Aside from the change of Charly Boy Bus Stop to Baddo Bus Stop, other locations in Bariga were also renamed after notable Nigerians, especially from the entertainment and sports industry.

Here are some of the major changes:

Ilaje Road is now King Sunny Ade Road, honouring the Juju music legend.

Bariga Road has been renamed Bola Ahmed Tinubu Way, in recognition of the Nigerian President and former Lagos Governor.

Community Road, Akoka is now Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu Road, for the current Lagos Governor.

Ajidagan Street becomes Olamide Adedeji (Baddo) Street.

Ifeanyi Street is now Abolore Akande (9ice) Street, named after singer 9ice.

Ayodele Street, Ladi-Lak has been renamed Tony Tetuila Street, in honour of the Afro-pop veteran.

Ilojo Crescent, Obanikoro is now Bukayo Saka Street, after the Arsenal and England football star of Nigerian descent.

The renaming has also stirred reactions from social media users.

Ola, a user on X revealed that; “If the person behind this decision were truly born and raised in Bariga, they would know that the bus stop is actually known as Second Pedro Bus Stop-not Charly Boy Bus Stop. This is a clear example of how political bitterness can distort historical and communal facts.”

AKIN OMO AKIN also said, “Nobody named it Charlyboy bus stop in the first place, Charlyboy named it after himself without any authorization from the local government.”

OG Beeperl reacted by saying, “Baddo is kuku greater than Charly wayray and his entire generation anyway.”

Other reactions accused the state government of playing bitter politics.
