Aloy Ejimakor, the lead attorney for the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has accused the police of deploying teargas to disperse protesters who gathered in Abuja on Monday.
In a post on X, Ejimakor mentioned that he was part of a large crowd assembled in front of the Transcorp Hilton Hotel for the #MNKOct20 demonstration when police officers discharged teargas into the air.
He reported that the incident caused irritation in his eyes and throat.
“I’m in front of Transcorp Hilton with a massive crowd that gathered for #MNKOct20, and the police just released teargas. My eyes and throat are hurting. People are scattering everywhere,” Ejimakor stated.
According to DAILY POST, the protesters had gathered to call for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, who has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since June 2021.
The rally was part of renewed efforts by his supporters urging the Federal Government to adhere to previous court rulings that mandated Kanu’s release.
