The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has strongly condemned the kidnapping of 25 boarding students from the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State.
Dr. Abdullahi Bello Umar, Chairman,
MURIC, Kebbi State Chapter, expressed his dismay over the incident, labeling the kidnapping as heinous, heartless, and cowardly.
He emphasized that this act represents a severe violation of human rights, an attack on education, and poses a significant threat to national security.
The organization also condemned the murder of the vice principal, a Muslim named Mallam Hassan Makuku, as well as the injuries sustained by the school's guard.
The group expressed its solidarity with the abducted girls, their families, teachers, and the entire community.
MURIC urged the Federal Government, the Kebbi State government, and all relevant security agencies to enhance and sustain search-and-rescue operations, utilizing intelligence, military, police, and local resources.
It stated that the presidential directive to security agencies to locate and safely return the abducted students, as well as to prosecute those responsible, must be taken seriously.
“Citizens must have faith in the government's ability to safeguard its citizens,” the statement read.
“It is absurd that some individuals have claimed the unfortunate incident took place in a ‘Christian enclave’. This is far from the truth. There is no such Christian enclave in Kebbi. The vice principal who was killed was a Muslim. Furthermore, television footage shows that the parents visiting the school since the incident are all wearing hijabs, indicating they are Muslims,” the statement concluded.
