On April 15 cops finally caught and arrested fugitive killer in San Lorenzo, Paraguay.
Panissa had been on international wanted lists and Interpol’s red notice system for the femicide of his ex-partner 37 years ago.
Panissa’s brutal killing made headlines in the summer of 1989 when his ex-wife Fernanda Estruzani Panissa was found stabbed to death in her apartment in southern Brazil.
The victim was 21 years old at the time and discovered with 72 stab wounds in what investigators called an extremely violent killing.
Their young daughter was staying with her grandmother at the time, and so did not witness the horrifying attack.
At the time Panissa confessed to the sickening murder, telling a jury he was jealous of his ex-wife after their relationship ended.
He was sentenced in 1991 but he appealed the verdict several times and became entangled in complex legal disputes.
The legal problems meant the killer was only convicted of his crime in 2008, and sentenced to 20 years behind bars.
But by the time the conviction came through, Panissa had already disappeared.
Authorities say Panissa fled Brazil and built a new life in Paraguay with forged documents.
Living under the name of Carlos Viana, the man started a small business and a new family in San Lorenzo.
His new family were completely unaware that they were living with a murderer.
Officials have hailed the arrest as a victory for justice as even perpetrators of decade-old crimes will be hunted down and jailed.
It comes as tourists are being across the world.
In March, one German holidaymaker, 25, was attacked outside a hotel in Majorca.
The horrifying incident was part of an armed gang robbery.
And in February, a British tourist, 22, collapses in a store in Thailand as horrified shoppers flee the scene.
The during a heated argument with a local shopper.
