A MUM has been left speechless after her six-year-old son told her his teachers SNIFF students’ water bottles at school.

Sam admitted she “can’t get her head round” the extremes the allegedly go to in order to ensure none of the children have squash or flavoured water in their bottles.

“I actually cannot believe what my six-year-old had just came back from school and told me,” she said in a video on her TikTok page.

“When I moved to England I was stunned that the kids were only allowed water to drink,” she said.

While her daughter is allowed a drink other than water, she has ADHD and is autistic – but none of the other children are allowed anything other than water.

However, due to her son’s water bottle being opaque, she has always filled it with squash or flavoured water, as he prefers it to normal water.

But he then came to her and said: “Mum, I definitely can’t have my diluted juice anymore or squash.

“ are opening our water bottles and sniffing them.”

When she questioned what he’d said, he replied: “The teachers this afternoon were opening all our water bottles and sniffing them to make sure that we just had water and that it wasn’t flavoured water.

“And if it was, they were tipping it out and refilling it with water.”

She added that while she understands why teachers wouldn’t want to get sticky undiluted squash all over the carpets, Sam said she didn’t understand the extent they were going to.

“To the extent that they are opening their water bottles and sniffing it, like how is this normalised and how is this okay?” she fumed.

“I just feel speechless.

However, people in the comments section were divided as to who was in the right.

“What? That’s crazy. They need to stick to teaching!” one person raged.

“Same in my boys school, I find it very sad and very controlling behaviour by some schools,” another added.

“It would be different if it was lemonade or something!”

“Whatttttt? This is insane!” a third commented.

However, others insisted the rule is there for a reason – and it should be stuck to by parents.

“Just don’t give them squash??? Why do they need it? Think of their teeth!” one wrote.

“Good on the teacher. Parents hate following rules!” another added.

“Why can’t parents just be a good example to their children and follow rules?” a third commented.

“It’s normalised because folk are so entitled and feel the rules don’t apply to them,” someone else sighed.

“I think the really sad thing is that parents can’t be trusted to follow school policy so teachers are wasting precious time having to inspect, wash out and refill water bottles!” another commented.

“This is also done to ensure no medication has been added which is obviously incredibly dangerous and happens more often than you’d think.

“If the policy is water, then take water. Simple!”
