IN her quest for a “rounder bum”, Josephina Finch flew to Spain and shelled out £6,000 on a Brazilian butt lift and implants.

Just a week later, the 38-year-old mum was in as fluid began “gushing out” of an inch-long hole in her bottom.

“I thought I was going to die, I thought that was it, I felt so poorly,” the make-up artist from Kent said.

Josephina says she now regrets her decision and said she has a ‘bum’ from at the instead of looking for an ‘instant’ fix.

“I didn’t really have anything wrong with my bum,” she said.

“I just wanted something different, I liked the curvier look so that’s why I did it.”

However, the was much more gruelling than she expected and things quickly started going downhill over the coming days.

Josephina said: “I woke up screaming at some point in the operating theatre.”

She added: “After seven days they took my drains out and it went downhill.

“I started feeling really unwell, I had extreme pain throughout my body, my bum itself was really painful.

“I felt that it was really not right, I was ill. Everyone thought it was just because I had my bum done.

“They put me on a drip to hydrate me.”

She said: “The nurse came in and started to push my bum cheeks together and lots of fluid came squirting out of the incision where they put the implants.

“Litres of fluid, it wasn’t just a drip, so much of it gushing out. They said my implants were infected.

Josephina was then told she would have to wait for eight days to have her implants out, as her surgeon was away.

“I thought ‘I can’t live like this’, there’s a huge hole at the top of my bum, where the incision hasn’t closed. It was a good inch and a half,” she said.

Josephina’s partner had to go home while she says she waited eight days for the surgeon to come back from holiday to have them removed.

“It was a nightmare, it was actual hell,” she said.

“I was in pain, you have to lay down, you can’t stand up.”

Soon she was noticing pain in her leg and eventually an ultrasound discovered a in her leg so was thinners.

The mum became more concerned when she started having ‘ a day after taking the blood thinners and drove herself to the hospital.

Doctors reportedly said the blood clot could be moving to her lung and that she could have died if she had not asked for the blood thinners.

‘All just to have a slightly bigger bum’

Josephina said the experience left her with health anxiety and guilt over taking the risk as a mum.

“It’s given me bad anxiety, worrying that something else is going to go wrong. It’s not worth it if I’m honest,” she said.

“All just to have a slightly bigger bum.”

“I’ll never be the same again,” she added. “I’ve got three children and I have that guilt forever now for taking that risk.

“I couldn’t have known but it made me realise I can actually get a bum by going to the gym.”

Sixth months after her horror ordeal, the mum got a PT and now has “a bum”, she said.

“I should have just done that [go to the gym] in the first place,” she said.

“I tried to take the easy way out and instantly look perfect but actually risked everything.”

For now, Josephina is blood-clot free.

“[But doctors] said if I get another blood clot I’ll probably be on blood thinners for the rest of my life,” she explained.

What are Brazilian Bum Lifts and why are they so popular?

Buttock enlargement surgery - known as a Brazilian bum-lift (BBL) - is used to make the bum look bigger, rounded and lifted.

Surgeons transfer fat, inject filler or insert silicone-filled implants.

It is the fastest-growing cosmetic procedure but also one of the most dangerous, according to the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS).

Many patients are travelling to the likes of Turkey or seeking out unregistered surgeons in the UK and are not given full information on the risks.

BBLs carry the highest risk of all cosmetic surgeries – with more than one death occurring per 4,000 procedures.

Due to celebrities undergoing such ops, many women are hoping to emulate their looks.

Consultant clinical psychologist Dr Anu Sayal-Bennett, a chartered member of the British Psychological Society, told the BBC : “Despite there being so much about body positivity, there are pressures for women – and men too – to look a certain way.”

Many people travel abroad for the procedure because it is cheaper and advertising is “terribly seductive”, combined with the idea of a beach holiday, added Dr Sayal-Bennett
