Her sister received a frantic call later that evening saying something had gone wrong.

“They told me my sister had complications during surgery, but they didn’t give me any details,” she said.

Rebeca was rushed to hospital, where doctors confirmed she died shortly after arriving.

Her sister says she had been in good and had passed all pre-surgery tests.

The man who carried out the procedure, José David Molina Barreto, is reportedly not registered as a plastic surgeon with the Peruvian Medical College.

The 37-year-old Venezuelan is listed as a general surgeon and laparoscopic specialist.

Investigators believe he had rented a room at the clinic to perform the operation.

He allegedly rented a room at the clinic to carry out the botched procedure.

The facility itself was only licensed for consultations, not surgical procedures.

Barreto is now under investigation for manslaughter, but have so far been unable to locate him.

Rebeca leaves behind two young children.

In a statement, Clínica Florez Salud said: “We would like to stress that our institution holds all the necessary licences, accreditations and documentation to operate, in full compliance with current regulations.

“We also confirm that we are responding promptly to requests from the relevant authorities, maintaining a cooperative and transparent approach, and making all necessary documentation available to help clarify the circumstances.”

This is not the first time a parent has died after cosmetic surgery went wrong.

What are the risks of getting surgery abroad?

IT'S important to do your research if you're thinking about having cosmetic surgery abroad.

It can cost less than in the UK, but you need to weigh up potential savings against the potential risks.

Safety standards in different countries may not be as high.

No surgery is risk-free. Complications can happen after surgery in the UK or abroad.

If you have complications after an operation in the UK, the surgeon is responsible for providing follow-up treatment.

Overseas clinics may not provide follow-up treatment, or they may not provide it to the same standard as in the UK.

Also, they may not have a healthcare professional in the UK you can visit if you have any problems.
