A DEVOTED mum has tragically died in a horror plane crash after being forced into an emergency landing on a busy motorway.

Alex Garneau was killed after the aircraft lost power to one of its engines and crashed into four vehicles when it landed in traffic.

Alex, a mum-of-two, was the only victim of the fatal accident despite there reportedly being two crew members and six other passengers on board.

The tragedy occurred on August 20 in Foothills Boulevard, Prince George, Canada.

The plane, a Beechcraft King Air 200, was scheduled to fly from Sturdee River airstrip to Prince George International Airport.

Jaime Pawliuk, a survivor of the crash on the ground, says he was driving to work when he saw the aircraft hurtling towards him.

He said: “All of a sudden it was on top of me.

“I was only able to make it just a little ways before the wing just sheared the entire top of my vehicle off and showered me with glass.”

Paramedics assessed 10 people following the crash, with two taken to hospital in a stable condition.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada has taken over the investigation, police said.

A GoFundMe set up for Alex described her as a devoted “hockey mom” who was actively involved in her children’s lives.

The tribute added: “She was fiercely devoted to her family, she will be forever missed and remembered.”

The two fundraisers established for her family have together raised more than $70,000 in just a few days.

Organisers Laura Creighton and Katie Trottier said Alex was a loyal friend who always showed up when people needed her, making those around her feel like they belonged.

The money will be used to support Alex’s family with their immediate and long term needs.

A second appeal launched through the Junior Ducks Hockey Club described Alex as “so much more than a hockey mom” and a major part of their wider hockey family.

She regularly helped organise activities, supported young players and travelled with the team.

The club said Alex brought warmth to a room simply by being there and had given so much of herself to her family and the people around her.

It added: “We love you, Alex. You will never be forgotten.”
