A MUM and daughter have tragically died from cancer just ten hours apart – leaving their heartbroken family to bury the pair together.
Cibele Marchis, 28, lost her battle with a rare and aggressive form of the disease at around 4pm on Thursday.
Her mum, Maria Elisabete Nogueira, 56, was laying sedated in another hospital in the Brazilian city of Mogi Guacu.
Relatives were still gathered at Cibele’s wake when, shortly before 2am on Friday, they received news that Maria had also died.
Neither woman ever learnt the other had passed away.
The pair had previously spoken about how neither wanted to live through the death of the other.
They were later laid to rest together following a joint funeral at a municipal cemetery.
Cibele, who worked in real estate and digital marketing and had nearly 12,000 followers, was diagnosed first after developing symptoms in December 2023.
Doctors discovered she had a rare and aggressive cancer originating in her adrenal gland.
She continued working throughout her illness and documented parts of her treatment online.
Alongside a picture of herself hooked up to a drip in March, she wrote: “As long as your only problem is , be grateful.
“Worse is facing something that not even all the money in the world can solve.”
Cibele had already come close to death after developing infections following surgery in December last year.
Her family was called to hospital as her condition deteriorated, but she unexpectedly pulled through and was eventually discharged.
Maria, a podologist known as Bia, had meanwhile been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
Her condition worsened this month and she was admitted to hospital on September 17.
Rawlinson Leandro da Costa, Maria’s nephew and Cibele’s cousin, said: “Neither of the two wanted to see the other die. They even commented on it, sometimes jokingly, other times seriously, and it happened.
“One never found out about the other’s death. It really is an astonishing thing.”
Tributes poured in following the double tragedy, with well-wisher Jorge Vitorino describing Maria as “a light wherever she went.”
He said: “It is with profound sorrow and immense sadness that we announce the passing of Bia Nogueira, mother of our dear Cibele Marchis.
“Bia was a light wherever she went: a joyful, affectionate woman with a generous heart, who left unforgettable marks on everyone who had the blessing of sharing her life.
“Her life was a constant example of faith, love, affection and dedication to family and friends.
“May the love and memories of her smile bring some comfort to the hearts of family and friends in this moment of inexplicable pain.
“Bia and Cibele remain together in the spiritual realm and forever etched in our memory.”
Cibele’s friend Barbara Rodrigues dos Santos said she refused to allow her illness to bring her life to a halt.
She said: “She never stopped working. She never stopped living. She never stopped doing the things she had to do.”
Colleague Eloa Righi added: “She didn’t let cancer define her. She didn’t want to be known as Cibele who has cancer, but rather Cibele who works, has fun, lives, and has cancer.”
