Two major motorways are closed in both directions over lorry fire and crash – as drivers warned of long delays

TWO major motorways are closed in both directions due to a lorry fire and serious crash.

The M1 in South Yorkshire has been shut with drivers warned to re-route or delay their journeys.

Meanwhile, the M20 is also closed in both directions after a lorry erupted into flames earlier this morning.

On the M20 closure, a statement from National Highways says: “

The M1 in South Yorkshire is closed in both directions between J36 (Hoyland) and J37 (Barnsley) due to a serious collision.

Emergency services including South Yorkshire Police are in attendance. National Highways Traffic Officers are also on scene assisting with traffic management.

If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey.”;

On the M20 closure, it adds: “The M20 in Kent is closed in both directions between J11 (Westenhanger) and J12 (Cheriton) due to a lorry fire.

Emergency services including Kent Police are in attendance. National Highways Traffic Officers are also on scene assisting with traffic management.”;

Diversions are currently in place for both closures.
