Tension mounted at the national headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja on Tuesday, as former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom was reportedly escorted out of the PDP National Executive Committee (NEC) Hall during a press briefing conducted by Governors Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State.
A video captured voices saying, “Let him out, who is he? This is not your PDP,” as Ortom entered the hall amid the ongoing power struggle between factions within the party.
According to DAILY POST, the incident unfolded as opposing factions attempted to hold parallel meetings at the Wadata Plaza headquarters.
The National Working Committee (NWC), elected in Ibadan, and the faction associated with the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, had both arranged separate meetings for that day, which led to a confrontation.
Earlier, members of the pro-Wike faction, led by National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, arrived at the secretariat; however, a brawl later erupted, resulting in their reported removal from the premises.
Makinde, Bala Mohammed, and newly elected PDP National Chairman Taminu Turaki eventually gained entry to the NEC hall to proceed with their meeting.
Afterward, Turaki addressed journalists, alleging that a serving minister had sent thugs to disrupt activities at the secretariat with the assistance of security personnel.
He called upon the international community, particularly U.S. President Donald Trump, to intervene, asserting that democracy in Nigeria was under threat.
Turaki emphasized that party loyalists were ready to defend their mandate, urging stakeholders and global observers to closely monitor developments within the PDP.
