THIS is the moment a crook is caught hiding in a garden box after fleeing cops and crashing into a hedge.

The man was being tracked down by officers after he was seen dangerously on the M20 earlier this year.

In dramatic body-worn camera footage, one officer can be seen opening a storage box to find the man they were looking for was inside.

Richard Whitehead, donned in a blue Nike tracksuit, had folded himself inside the box in an attempt to hide after he had crashed his .

While he was put in cuffs, he can be heard repeatedly telling the officers “I’m having a heart attack” while clutching his chest before he is hauled out.

Cops had been searching for Whitehead after he had driven off after an incident in , .

He was subsequently pursued on the M20 with dash-cam footage showing him speeding away down the hard shoulder.

Whitehead eventually exits the motorway where footage from another motor showing him completely lose control of his vehicle.

He can be seen smashing through two bollards and a lamp post, narrowly missing two other vehicles, before the car comes to a rest when it slams into a hedge.

The crash leaves a trail of carnage in its wake with the wreckage scattered across the road and the front of the car smashed to pieces.

Whitehead can then be seen exiting the car with the ignition still on and fleeing on foot.

He’s seen jumping over a fence as an unmarked car speeds into shot to pursue him.

Whitehead then found a hiding spot inside a garden box where officers quickly discovered him.

Kent Police said he has now been and disqualified from driving.

They had uploaded footage of his arrest to alongside the caption: “Our officers tracked down a criminal hiding in a garden box after he was seen driving dangerously on the M20 earlier this year.

“We’ll relentlessly pursue offenders to keep the streets of Kent safe.”
