Two decomposed bodies, victims of the May 29, 2025, devastating flood that swept through Mokwa town in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State, were recovered on Thursday.
The flood submerged buildings and swept away many people from their homes following a torrential rainfall.
Abdullahi Baba Arah, the Director General, Niger State Emergency Management Agency, confirmed the recovery of the two bodies on Thursday.
According to him, “The bodies were discovered downstream of the bridge where the floodwater had passed, after a heavy downpour on Wednesday washed away the sand dunes that had covered the corpses.”;
He further explained that the two dead bodies were recovered on Thursday downstream of the bridge, saying that Wednesday’s rains, which flowed along the water channel, washed away sand dunes that covered the dead bodies, and the bodies were decomposed beyond recognition.
The Niger State Government said that no fewer than 700 people were still missing, while 207 others were confirmed dead from the disaster.
