Mokwa flood: Niger Govt reveals reasons for incident

The Niger State Government has said that attitudinal change is one of the reasons behind the flood incidents in the state.

Acting Director-General of the State Emergency Management Agency, Ibrahim Hussaini, made this statement on Wednesday on Sunrise Daily, a programme on Channels Television.

Hussaini was reacting to the latest flood incident that ravaged the Mokwa Local Government Area of the state, which has .

“As far as Niger State is concerned, we know every segment of the society that is at risk of flood, the people also know it. But the problem we have with the people is that of attitudinal change; they are attached to their places of settlement,”; he said.

Meanwhile, the federal government has rejected speculation that the flood incident was the result of a dam break or water spill from reservoirs in the area.

The government said that have problems, stressing that they are up and running.
