An urgent search has commenced for a missing individual in the waters off a popular beach in the UK.
A large multi-agency search operation was conducted near the Great Western beach in Newquay, Cornwall, on Saturday night.

They conducted the search in coordination with a Newquay Coastguard rescue helicopter and the Devon and Cornwall Police.
A spokesperson for the Newquay Coastguard Search and Rescue Team stated: “This evening at 17:08, the Newquay Coastguard Rescue Team, Newquay RNLI Lifeboats, HM Coastguard Padstow, the Newquay Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 924, and Devon & Cornwall Police were tasked with reports of a casualty in the water near Great Western.
“Upon arrival, all units began a thorough search of the area.”
While the rescue operation was ongoing, the agency reported a second incident involving a casualty on Porth Island.
Teams were then redirected to this second situation while the search at Great Western continued.
“At 7:15 PM, a second call was received requesting assistance from Newquay CRT and Newquay Lifeboats to aid the Police with a casualty on Porth Island,” the spokesperson added.
“Half of the team proceeded to the second incident while the rest remained at Great Western.
“All units assigned to Porth were stood down once this situation was resolved. St Agnes Coastguard Search & Rescue Team was also called to assist with this incident.”
According to the agency, the search at Great Western was “suspended pending further inquiries.”
