SHE’S the grungy, rebellious loner of a superhero we didn’t know we needed.
The 2026 Supergirl is a greasy-haired, hungover mess who wees with the door open and loves only her dog, Krypto.

Directed by Craig Gillespie, who had a huge hit with 2021’s Cruella, and produced by Superman director , this rock-star of superheroes has a very modern take on the world — and the DC Universe.
She wears a Blondie T-shirt for most of the — instead of her Supergirl outfit — and muses about her cousin, Clark Kent: “He sees the good in everyone. I see the truth.”
We meet Supergirl — or Kara — played by , as she celebrates her 23rd birthday.
She and Krypto are on a pub crawl around the galaxy, downing shots with characters who wouldn’t look out of place in .

During a hard-drinking session, she meets Ruthye (Eve Ridley), who is seeking revenge after seeing her family being slaughtered by Krem of the Yellow Hills (Matthias Schoenaerts).
Krem arrives and Krypto tries to protect them both, but in doing so, is poisoned.
With only 72 hours to save him, the pair travel the galaxy to hunt Krem down, find the antidote and seek revenge.
They get into plenty of elaborate fight sequences, and join up with crazed bounty hunter Lobo (an underused ).

A large section of the film gives Supergirl’s backstory, which makes things a little too chaotic and a tad exhausting.
But with a few comedic appearances from Superman (), an excellent soundtrack and enough jeopardy to keep you intrigued, this film is off to a flier.
