He had played Black Panther in the 2018 film and appeared post-humously in archive footage in the 2022 sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
On Saturday at San Diego Comic-Con, Black Panther director Ryan Coogler and President of Studios Kevin Feige revealed actor David Jonsson, 32, will take on the role as T’Challa’s adult son in the forthcoming sequel.
Taking to the stage, David said: “I want to say thank you so much. Thank you, Ryan. Thank you, Kevin. Thank you to this amazing family that I have the honour and privilege and blessing to join.
“I actually don’t want to say too much. Because I want to let this screen do the talking.

David, who grew up in East London, started his acting career on stage in the West End before landing roles in hit TV show Industry as well as films including Alien: Romulus and The Long Walk.
Last year, he won the BAFTA Rising Star Award.
Black Panther 3 is set for release in December 2028, with Letitia Wright and Winston Duke confirmed to return as Shuri and M’Baku.
Speaking about David joining the Black Panther family, Winston told The Hollywood Reporter : “It feels great. He’s a wonderful young man.
“I had the pleasure of meeting him for the first time today. I welcomed him into the family, I welcomed him and offered him the same grace that was extended to me.
“I just wanted to let him know it’s a safe place to come and play.
“And I trust all the decisions that have been made in bringing him so, it’s great.”
