MICHAEL OWEN believes there is something Manchester United can learn from Arsenal’s evolution under Mikel Arteta.

But thanks to the board’s trust and patience the Spanish tactician managed to turn things around about three years later and transformed the Gunners into Premier League as well as Champions League contenders.
Although the North Londoners are a “totally different kettle of fish” , 45, suggests United can find a way to “buy in to the process” like their Premier League rivals did with Arteta.
The former star argues that progress can come in different forms, beyond just results.
But the legend is also adamant the situation is more “awkward” at the Red Devils as Amorim hasn’t shown progress “visually”.
The England icon insists the Portuguese tactician needs to find a way to show the kind of progress – beyond results – that would “impress” the board and fans in order to convince them to stick with him like Arteta did at .
Owen told SunSport on behalf of casino.co.uk : “Even if there is no progress visually, people need to buy in to the process.
“There must be a thought process of, alright, the results aren’t great, but there is something to work with.
“On the flip side, maybe results are getting better, but they’re a bit flattered based on some of the performances.
“I think Manchester United fans, directors, managers, whoever they are, people need to be impressed.
“It doesn’t have to be that you’re racing up the league and you’re in the Champions League positions. Progress can come in different forms.
“Arteta is a case in point whereby; you stick with someone if you can see early progress beyond the results.
“It’s a hard situation to compare to the one at Man Utd. I mean let’s be fair, isn’t showing much progress.
“I like the idea that he should get more time, but I can’t really sit here and argue the case when you look at their progress. I’m like, no, I agree with you. It’s an awkward one.
“I think Arsenal are a totally different kettle of fish.”
Owen believes there are three players Amorim could rely on in his bid to turn things around at the Theatre of Dreams.
Those are United captain Bruno Fernandes as well as summer signings Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, who could solve the team’s goalscoring problems.
How Amorim can turn it around
Owen added: “Hopes will be hung on the new players who have been brought in to score goals.
“Scoring goals has been a huge problem for them in recent seasons, so they’ve addressed it with a totally new frontline.
“Bruno Fernandes is one player that, in amongst the dozens and dozens who have signed at Manchester United over the years, he seems to be one player who hasn’t dropped his standards. He’s not regressed as a player.
“Bryan Mbuemo is obviously proven in the Premier League, so is Matheus Cunha. I like Cunha as a player, and I think he could be very good; he already is very good.
“They’re the three players that I think Manchester United fans would look at most and think, they need to create and score goals.
“Not much has happened with the defence, in terms of recent signings.
Sesko could become key
“They’ve got a lot of players back there, and they didn’t really invest much in the summer, so I think it’s all about trying to score more goals and trying to be more potent up there.”
United also in the summer to help them add some goalscoring threat.
Sesko, 22, has played in all of Man Utd’s seven Premier League matches but only started in four of them, with two goals along the way.
Owen is adamant the striker needs more time to prove himself under Amorim.
Sesko’s big traits
The ex-Real Madrid star suggested the Slovenia international’s size and strong presence could pay dividends for the Manchester giants provided he is handled properly.
Owen said: “I would hate to judge him so early in the season; his team might have played seven games, but he’s not played seven from the start.
“I would like to see him more before I judge him. His obvious traits are his size; he’s got a real presence about him.
“The first couple of games I was thinking, I’m not quite sure about him, I shouldn’t really say it because you can’t judge someone on coming on for 10 minutes, 15 minutes.
“He’s settled a bit more now and he’s scored a couple of goals. That’s the key thing for Sesko, building that confidence.
“He’s playing with good players. Let’s see him in another 10, 15 games.”
