He told Sky Sports : “To be a midfielder at , you need to have an element of composure, an element of expression.
“You’ve got to be positive.

“You’ve got to have an element of athleticism to deal with fast attacks and how we want to play the game.
“In the end, you want to be creating excitement, you know, as well as having to defend.
“So, my answer is pretty much everything, really.”
Any player United sign for the role will also need to complement , who has enjoyed a resurgence under Carrick after he was ostracised by .
