FEARS are growing that the Miami Grand Prix could be CALLED OFF due to adverse weather.

Races in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia were cancelled due to the ongoing conflict between the USA, Israel and Iran.

Now there may not be any racing in Miami due to bad that could make for dangerous conditions.

The Daily Mail have reported that chiefs have drawn up contingency plans in case of thunder and lightning strikes.

AccuWeather has stated that there is an 88 per cent chance of rain as well as a 53 per cent chance of thunderstorms over the race weekend.

If the bad weather strikes during the race at 4pm local time (9pm BST) then it could be called off.

Florida law states that major events must be cancelled if there are lightning strikes within eight miles of the venue.

As of Friday night, the plan from F1 bosses was to carry on but the FIA could re-order the programme.

The FIA – the governing body responsible for safety – is prepared to sheild fans in the Hard Rock Stadium arena if lightning strikes.

The 65,000-capacity stadium is just 0.3miles from the Miami International Autodrome.

An FIA spokesman said: ‘We are closely monitoring the weather forecast.

“Having faced a similar situation last year in Miami, we have a contingency plan in place.”

The Miami Grand Prix is one of the most glamorous of the F1 season with plenty of famous faces expected to attend.

His team-mate has expressed his fears of safety due to the cars they were driving.

He said: “The weird thing about these cars in the wet is that you might end up going much faster at the end of the straight in wet conditions than you do in dry conditions because you don’t have that engine cut because you’re not using as much energy.

“You can find yourself in tricky situations, especially if drivers are driving with different power-unit strategies.

“You’ve got very little visibility. So that’s the trickiness of these rules and something that we need to understand a way out of.

“In the wet, we are really passengers. In the rain, it’s not about being brave or not.

“You stay flat out and hope no cars in front of you are slower than you and you just assume they are on the same speed as you.”
