Maxi Hughes told SunSport: “I was out in the front garden about three weeks ago, mowing the lawn or doing some DIY, and a fella I had never met before, from three doors down, came over and leaned on my fence.

“He went; ‘Eh-up young’un, can I have a word?’

“I walked over worrying he wanted a row about something but he says: ‘I’m coming to your fight but I’ll not be drinking. So, if you want a lift there and back, let me know’.

“I thanked him and explained that this sort of stuff is all arranged for us.
