“I performed well – many players did. I believed we could contend for the title in my second season, but I sensed the club was more focused on commercial interests.
“Once, I was injured and we had a match scheduled for the weekend.
“On Wednesday, I couldn’t train due to a swollen ankle, and I asked a physio, ‘Can you provide treatment this afternoon?’
“We did that, but there was a commercial event at Old Trafford at 3pm.
“A few days later, my agent called to ask what I had done, as I hadn’t checked my emails.
“I checked and discovered I had been fined for not attending the event. I approached Jose and said, ‘Listen, if I pay this, I’ll never play for this club again.’
“He assured me he would resolve it, and he did, but something like that would never have happened at Chelsea.
“I don’t wish to criticize United; I hold them in high regard. I hope things have changed since then.”
