MATEUS FERNANDES scored a wonder strike for Spurs on his debut as fans were left raving about “the greatest goal I’ve ever seen”.

The effort pinged into the net off the post and the star was immediately mobbed by his new team-mates.

The superb hit was enough to seal a 1-0 win over the outfit in the behind-closed-doors friendly at Hotspur Way.

But the low-key nature of the game couldn’t stop excited Spurs fans from hailing Fernandes and his technique.

One supporter posted a clip of the video and wrote: “Mateus Fernandes with the greatest goal I’ve ever seen.”

Another added: “Goal of the season and the season hasn’t even started yet.”

A third said: “Give West Ham another £85m for that alone.”

Other ambitious fans joked: “I’ve seen enough, we are winning the Premier League.”

Fernandes was asked about the strike by club media after the game and claimed it was the best goal he’s ever scored.

He said: “It was great, no? It was my favourite goal of my career by a mile. The second one was last season.

“I need to do this more, to shoot outside the box. I know I can do it.”

Spurs won the race to sign Fernandes after beating to his signature.

He enjoyed a top season for the Hammers after scoring three goals and assisting four.

But he could not prevent the team’s relegation as they finished 18th, two points off Tottenham in 17th.
