AN ELDERLY married couple has tragically been found dead in their home after a suspected gas leak.

The bodies of the 89-year-old man and 90-year-old woman were discovered on Friday morning.

Officers from Derbyshire responded to reports a couple had been found lying unconscious at a house in Ilkeston around 10am on Friday.

Cops added an ambulance was called, but paramedics sadly pronounced the couple dead at the scene.

Police said: “Officers were called to reports that a couple had been found unconscious following a suspected leak at a house in The Spinney, Ilkeston, just after 10.10am today (20 Feb).”

“ Fire and Rescue Service made the area safe, and after the property was ventilated, officers were able to carry out an initial review of the circumstances in which the couple died,” the force said.

Police confirmed they will submit the case to the coroner, and they will continue their probe “into the circumstances of the gas leak”.
