A MARRIED At First Sight star courageously shared her experiences with an 'eating disorder' in a heartfelt post.

Laura Vaughan, 35, who participated in the 2023 season of the popular series, posted a touching letter online discussing her 'disordered' relationship with food, following a challenging year in her personal life.

The alum, who was paired with a charming coach during the experiment, candidly addressed her struggles with body image and anxiety, revealing the disparity between her online persona and real life.

Discussing her eating disorder, Laura expressed: “When emotions are unstable, I quickly notice how my body becomes an afterthought.”

“At best, you might say I’m ‘a bit controlled’ around food; at worst, it’s something more disordered than I’d like to admit.”

“I don’t hate my body; I’m not trying to punish it. I just don’t always prioritize it enough to nourish it properly.”

“From the outside, everything might appear fine. That’s the odd part. I’m functioning. I’m working. I’m posting. I’m communicating clearly.”

“But internally, there’s a constant struggle to maintain balance.”

The MAFS star conveyed that while she showcases her best self on social media, she is still “struggling” with her mental health.

She added: “What I want to convey is this: when you follow someone online, you typically see the part of their life that knows how to function – not the part that’s still navigating through challenges.”

“Many of us are living dual lives. The visible one and the more private, unfinished one.”

Her poignant post, shared on Substack, came after a difficult year marked by a personal family tragedy.

Earlier this year, Laura disclosed her family’s grief following the sudden passing of her stepfather, after having lost her biological father earlier in life.

In a social media update in June, she shared: “I’ve been grappling with this for weeks, unsure of how to articulate my feelings.”

“A few weeks ago, my family lost my stepdad, Rich – very suddenly to cancer. It has left us devastated.”

Reflecting on her father's demise, she continued: “Many of you know that I lost my dad to cancer at the same age my half-sister is now. It often feels like life follows the most painful patterns.”

Getting Help for an Eating Disorder

If you suspect you may have an eating disorder, please consult a GP at your earliest convenience.

A GP will inquire about your eating habits and emotional well-being, in addition to assessing your overall health and weight.

They may refer you to a specialist or a team of professionals focused on eating disorders.

It can be incredibly difficult to acknowledge you have a problem and seek help. Bringing a friend or loved one to your appointment may make it easier.

You can also speak confidentially with an adviser from the eating disorders charity Beat by calling their helpline at 0808 801 0677.

Following the tragic loss, the star took a break from social media but has since made her return.

Laura participated in MAFS in 2023, where she experienced a notably challenging marriage with her partner Arthur.

Arthur expressed admiration for the Hertfordshire beauty.

However, Laura felt differently after receiving advice from friends earlier in the episode.

While she commended Arthur for bringing out her fun side, she explained that she felt he wasn’t always being his true self with her.
