MARK SELBY caused a stir following his X-rated interview in the wake of his shock defeat in the British Open.

Speaking on , the four-time world champion admitted that the season is looking promising, while he continues to battle Zhao Xintong and Judd Trump for the No1 status.

Selby, having three weeks ago, said: “I’ve had a great start to the season. I can’t complain.

“I’m just happy I’ve got a day off tomorrow because I feel absolutely f*****.

“I’ve got nothing left. I’m literally running on empty.

“I gave it everything I had but it wasn’t good enough.”

Selby’s swearing got a cheer from the Cheltenham fans in the arena, but the TV broadcaster was forced to apologise for the language.

Meanwhile, supporters online had their own thoughts on the language mishap.

Selby dragged himself level at 5-5 after another century break.

But Jones – who overcame in the semi-final – took it in his stride to move into a two frame lead at 7-5.

Welshman Jones, 33, was just one frame away from victory and Selby’s missing green handed the underdog the title.

Jones, 33, jumped from 31st to 22nd in the World Rankings and shot up to third on the one-year list.

He also landed the Clive Everton Trophy and a top prize of £100,000.

Meanwhile, Selby banked £45,000, before moving up from fourth to second in the rankings – behind only Xintong.

But it will not actually be much of a rest for Selby, who is set to face Ricky Walden in the first round of the English Open on Tuesday.
