STONE Roses icon Mani has sadly passed away.
The musician’s family shared the heartbreaking news on social media, prompting tributes from devastated fans.
His nephew posted on X: “It is with great sadness that I announce my uncle Gary Mani Mounfield from The Stone Roses has sadly passed away today.
“I am thinking of his twins and my uncle Greg during this difficult time.
“He will be reunited in heaven with his beloved wife Imelda.
“Rest in peace, Manni.”
The musician had been preparing for a solo “in conversation with” tour set for next summer.
Mani first gained recognition as the bassist for The Stone Roses after joining the band in 1987.
Following their breakup in 1996, he became a member of Primal Scream.
He played with them until 2011 when The Stone Roses reunited.
Earlier this month, Mani announced a series of live dates.
Fans were informed: “He’ll remember ‘Fools Gold’, Stadium, Ally Pally, cases, bucket hats, Adidas, ‘Screamadelica’, and the ‘Second Coming’. It’s What The World Is Waiting For.”
Mani was born and raised in Manchester and left school at 16 to pursue a career in music.
