A MANHUNT has been launched for a prisoner who is on the run after he escaped from jail, with the cops warning the public he should not be approached.

Mitchell Chantler, 25, scaled over the fence of HMP Sudbury in on Thursday evening.

have issued an appeal in their efforts to track him down.

Chantler had been locked up for four years having been jailed for seven years for a number of offences.

He has connections with both and .

A spokesman for Derbyshire Police said: “We are appealing for the public’s help to locate absconder Mitchell Chantler.

“Chantler climbed over the fence of HMP Sudbury at around 9.30pm on Thursday 14 May.

“The 25-year-old was jailed for 72 months in March 2022 for burglary, possession of class A and B and handling stolen goods.

“Chantler, who has links to Coventry and Leamington Spa, is around 5ft 8ins tall, of stocky build.

“He has brown , a full beard and distinctive tattoo above his left eye.

“The public should not approach Chantler and instead anyone who may have seen him, or has any information about his whereabouts, is asked to contact Derbyshire Constabulary using any of the below methods including reference 1202-140526.”
