A change of manager has seen ‘s exit plans put on hold, though, with United backtracking after dismissing Amorim on Monday.
Zirkzee, 24, has only scored twice this season and has struggled since moving to Old Trafford under Erik ten Hag in 2024.
He has nine goals for United in 64 appearances but only five in 46 in the Premier League.
After a disappointing 18 months, .
with a view to appointing an interim until the end of the season has put a pin in that.
Speaking about negotiations between the clubs, Roma chief Ricky Massara told DAZN Italia : “With regards to Zirkzee, at this moment Manchester United have completely closed off any discussion about the transfer market.
“As with the change of coach, they don’t want any movement.
“So it seems very improbable that they’ll change their minds.”
The Dutchman has struggled at Old Trafford
Zirkzee failed to make himself a regular under Amorim, only scoring eight times from his 46 games, starting 19 of those.
but was taken off at half-time after playing on the right wing.
The Dutchman was a sub with half an hour left of the eventual 1-1 draw at Leeds before Fletcher used him in the last five minutes against Burnley.
Massara had said of Zirkzee earlier in the week: “He is a Manchester United centre-forward liked by many clubs, not just us.
“Naturally, the situation is different after this change of management, there are no contacts in progress, but I wouldn’t focus on individual names.
“We know this window is an opportunity to reinforce the squad in an area where we have struggled to convert chances into goals, so we will try to use it.”
