A Sri Lankan man who is accused of raping a child in France has been apprehended in a major UK city by the National Crime Agency (NCA).
Sujanth Ketheeswararasa, 30, was arrested by the NCA’s extradition unit on Wednesday.
The Sri Lankan national is wanted by French authorities for allegedly raping a young girl.
He was taken into custody in the city center by NCA officers.
Ketheeswararasa appeared in court on Thursday and has been remanded in custody while extradition proceedings commence.
The 30-year-old is scheduled to appear via video link at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, November 27.
A complete extradition hearing is set for March 26, 2026.
Clare Meehan from the NCA’s Joint International Centre stated: “There is no higher priority for the NCA than safeguarding children from sexual abuse.”
“By collaborating with partners both domestically and internationally, we successfully traced and located the suspect and carried out his arrest.”
