WAYNE ROONEY has responded to Marcus Rashford’s assertions that he was in an “inconsistent environment” at Manchester United.
Rashford, 27, was sidelined last season.

The England forward was initially loaned out in January before moving to Barcelona in the summer.
Rooney, 39, was the captain of the Red Devils when Rashford made his debut under the management of Louis van Gaal.
In the midst of a resurgence at Barcelona, Rashford stated that he had experienced an “inconsistent environment for a very long time.”
During a discussion on his BBC podcast, Manchester United’s all-time leading scorer disagreed with Rashford’s viewpoint.
Rooney remarked: “I believe the environment hasn’t been ideal, but that ultimately depends on the individual.
“If you’re not performing well or find yourself out of the lineup, it’s easy to blame the environment, whether that’s justified or not. It comes down to how you conduct yourself.
“We’ve seen instances in games where he can do more; we know he can run harder – that’s unrelated to the environment.
“I could be mistaken here; I genuinely like Marcus as a person, but I think that’s an easy excuse to make.”

Rashford scored 138 goals in 426 appearances for Manchester United before losing his place in the team last year.
The England international, with 66 caps, went on to net four goals in 17 appearances for Aston Villa and currently has three goals along with five assists in 10 games for Barcelona.
Regarding his current situation, Rashford stated: “I’m pleased to be Barcelona’s top scorer and assister at the moment, but I recognize that I can still improve.
“I haven’t yet reached my full potential, though I’m getting closer.”
According to SunSport, Barcelona is “thrilled” with Rashford and is looking to make his loan move permanent.
The club has an option to sign the forward for £25 million, with an additional £5 million in add-ons.
Another former United captain commented on Rashford’s recent remarks.
‘OBVIOUSLY ISSUES’
The Irishman told ITV: “Towards the end of his time at United, there were clearly some issues.
“He was part of the problem regarding the environment, especially as one of the most experienced players at the club.
“He should have been setting the standards and demonstrating to newcomers what it means to be a United player. But that has been well documented.
“What we need to focus on is that he has this opportunity now with Barcelona, and he deserves it.
“There’s no doubt about his talent; he’s obviously exceptional. However, what would frustrate fans is his body language, not tracking back, or not pressing effectively.
“Those are the aspects he needs to refine, and if he does, there’s no reason he can’t evolve into a world-class player.”
Rashford will return to action tomorrow as Barcelona takes on Girona in a Catalan derby.
