The Belgian, 23, has started every game since his debut against Sunderland in October and has drawn plaudits for his calmness.
It follows a nightmare run of form for his predecessor
Four-time Premier League winner Van der Sar was analysing United’s game on Monday Night Football and complimented Lammens on his performance.
Carrick was a team-mate of the Dutchman for five years and the pair played in three finals together.
When asked if Lammens reminded him of the legend, Carrick replied: “I’ll be careful what I say. I definitely see the similarities, yeah, without comparing them.
“I don’t want to be comparing them because I don’t think it’s fair to Senne. But there’s definitely similarities.
“I think for me, a goalkeeper has to be reliable, to be trustworthy and instead of creating a chaos, you want him to take the chaos away and calm things down.
“I think Senne is that. He’s quite quiet at times and and unassuming, but he’s got a real steeliness.
Carrick has steered United to five wins and a draw
“And it’s a big, big role for some and all this talking there about coping and just being comfortable in your environment.
“Sometimes it takes time, sometimes not, but how he’s gone about it at the moment, that calmness, that composure, I think it does help those in front of an awful lot.
“A major part of it is the character, the personality and and that is a major attribute to have, especially playing here.”
United brought in Lammens for £18.1million from Royal Antwerp on transfer deadline day in September.
The move came after gaffe-prone Onana’s costly performance in the League Cup loss to League Two Grimsby.
Lammens has now kept three clean sheets in six games under Carrick, having only recorded two shut-outs when was in charge.
Carrick added: “The jump that he’s had (from the Belgian league) is a big jump, no disrespect. It’s a huge jump for for the one he made.
“And to to take it like he has done and and just get on with things speaks volumes of his his personality and he’s he’s so able to just deal with the environment and play at that level.”
