There is a possibility that Carrick will be in the dugout next season due to the team’s run of good form under his watch.

Some of the United faithful, however, are eager for the club not to make the mistake they did with in 2019 and hire an experienced manager.

Several of them have called for Xavi, who has been a free agent since being sacked by two years ago, to be given the reins.

And swathes of them are convinced he may do just that after seeing a photo of the legendary midfielder watching a street footballer in action with his son, who was in a complete United outfit.

After seeing the snap of watching the performer in action with his son Dan, one wrote on X: “Xavi, come save us.”

Another said: ” I’ve seen enough, appoint him, Carrick ball is stinky.”

And another said: “Bring this guy home, he begging for it.”

One remarked: ” Man United board should just sign this guy up. Better than Carrick by miles.”

Another chimed in: “Get me Xavi ASAP.”

What we know about the 'new' Old Trafford

MANCHESTER UNITED plan to build a new stadium rather than redevelop Old Trafford.

The decision was made after a number of fact-finding missions to other stadiums including the Bernabeu and Nou Camp.

The cost of the project is expected to be a staggering £2billion.

A capacity of 100,000 is expected.

It is felt that a club of United’s standing should have a new state-of-the-art facility.

The new stadium will be built on land adjacent to the Red Devils’ current home.

United are looking to not only build a stadium but regenerate the area of Trafford where the ground will stand.

There had been plans to KEEP Old Trafford rather than demolish it, and use it as a scaled down second venue.

However, it’s looking increasing likely that it will in fact be entirely demolished.

The club consulted with 30,000 fans about what to do and believe there is roughly a 50-50 split on staying or moving.

The club have appointed the architects Foster + Partners to come up with a “masterplan”. The company were behind Wembley Stadium.

has been United’s home since 1910.

The target is for completion by 2030.

If the Red Devils brass are considering appointing Xavi as the club’s new manager, they’ll have to duke it out with for his services.

The Blues are reportedly weighing up a move for the out-of-work 46-year-old, who has previously opened the door to moves to Old Trafford or .

In 2019, he said: “Who doesn’t like the Premier League?

“The atmosphere, the packed stadiums and the people who play in the Premier League say it’s extraordinary.

“Obviously, if I had to choose, I would choose a big team, [Manchester] City or United, Chelsea, Arsenal or Tottenham.

“Also, [Jurgen] Klopp and [Mauricio] Pochettino and Unai Emery, many people who have gone there are doing an extraordinary job.”
