MANCHESTER UNITED conducted urgent discussions with JJ Gabriel in an effort to convince him not to leave Old Trafford earlier this summer, as reported.

The 15-year-old prodigy is among the most promising talents to emerge from the United academy in recent years.

However, the Athletic reports that he nearly left United after several top European clubs began to show interest.

Consequently, United's leadership, including Matt Hargreaves and Matt Wilcox, quickly organized talks that ultimately persuaded him to stay.

The duo played a pivotal role, with Hargreaves making a significant intervention during negotiations, while Wilcox outlined potential pathways for the player.

United’s ambition and commitment to retaining Gabriel were crucial factors in his decision to stay, according to the report.

Gabriel and his father, Joe O’Cearuill, were subsequently invited to watch United’s opening match from the directors’ box.

Since then, the manager has invited Gabriel to several training sessions with the first team.

Additionally, following a new rule change, the young talent has been granted permission to participate in the FA Youth Cup.

This week, he made history by becoming the youngest scorer in the competition's history.

After winger Nathaniel Junior Brown set him up at the edge of the area, Gabriel skillfully placed the ball into the corner of the net with a first-time side-footed shot.

He has now scored 11 goals in 12 matches this season, including a recent impressive performance where fans were amazed by his skills, leading them to label him as a "star in the making."

Amorim recently commented on Gabriel after including him in a training session prior to their 2-1 victory last month.

The head coach remarked: “Like everyone, I recognize he is an exceptionally talented player, and he has garnered attention on social media.

“You could see that the U21s had a game, and we had fewer players, so I aimed to select players for training who possess talent.

“This isn’t just for me to assess for the next day but also for them to understand what it means to be in the first team, the challenges of playing against our defenders, and the intensity of our training sessions.

“If we can utilize every training opportunity to demonstrate to the kids what they need to do to be here, it is vital, not just for JJ but for everyone.”
