However, later on in the game, the 26-year-old found himself in a heated confrontation with a section of supporters.

Tensions quickly boiled over after jumped over the advertising boards and became embroiled in a shouting match with a group of angry Betis fans.

It was only allowed to last a few seconds before he was led away from the scene by team-mate Cucho Hernandez and security staff in front of the stand.

Antony has been worshipped by the Betis faithful ever since arriving on loan and lighting up last season.

After making the move permanent in the summer, the former Ajax star has continued his fine form and has 11 goals this season.

Betis boss attempted to defuse the situation after the match.

He said: “We’re just as frustrated as the fans are.”

It has been an emotional week for the former Man United flop, who broke down in tears after missing a big chance in the 94th-minute of Betis’s 1-1 draw against Rayo Vallecano last Saturday.
