A MAN in his 50s has been shot with a crossbow in a broad daylight attack at a university.

Cops have arrested a 21-year-old former student, from Saudi Arabia, in connection with the horror at the University of Surrey this morning.

Emergency crews were scrambled to Manor Park Student Village on the campus in Guildford, Surrey, at 10am.

The victim, a man in his 50s, has been rushed to hospital with “serious injuries”.

Surrey Police confirmed a 21-year-old Saudi national has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

The alleged attacker, believed to be a former student, is being held in police custody.

A huge emergency presence remains in place at the university this afternoon, the force added.

Chief Superintendent Jon Groenen said: ‘I appreciate that this incident will cause concern amongst our local communities.

“I can reassure that we are not looking for anyone else in relation to this incident.

“We are working closely with the university as our investigation progresses.

“The suspect was detained at the scene shortly after the incident and an investigation is now underway to establish the circumstances of the assault.

“The victim remains in a serious condition in hospital and his next of kin are aware and are being supported by officers.”
