A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man in his 30s was shot in his car in a quiet Cotswolds town.
Armed officers rushed to the scene in Lechlade, Gloucestershire, last night after receiving reports of the shooting.
Cops say the victim was fired on in his car before managing to drive a short distance and enter a property.
He was rushed to hospital with suspected gunshot wounds a short time later – his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
The suspect attempted to flee the scene in a vehicle before colliding with parked cars and running on foot, cops said.
Armed police searched the area and brought a man in his 20s into custody at around 10pm.
He was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in custody.
It is understood that those involved are known to each other.
Gloucestershire Constabulary officers recovered a firearm at the scene.
Anyone with information that may assist the force with its investigation is asked to come forward.
Acting Detective Inspector Sophie Dawkins from Gloucestershire Police’s Criminal Investigation Department said: “This is a worrying incident and no doubt will have caused a lot of concern in the community, especially during the time while officers were searching for the suspect.
“We’re in the early stages of an investigation and at this time it is understood that those involved are known to each other, and we’re not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.
“Those living nearby will see an enhanced police presence over the coming days and we’d encourage anyone with concerns to speak to officers in the area.”
