Gordon is also suspected of killing Delia’s beloved pet guinea pigs and putting their bodies in a freezer.

He lost contact with her in 2022 and he assumed she had moved to live in Australia legally.

He also lost contact with Gordon until 2025 when his cousin asked him to help clean his flat.

Lawler said: “He was coming up with fantasies.

“She’d gone to Australia to meet this man Rene. Then she ran away with his girlfriend to .

“The girlfriend’s parents in New Zealand were mega rich. This is what he told me.

“He just kept fantasising where she was. She was here, she was there, she was moving on everywhere.”

The court was also told that Delia had “a farm in Cornwall”, which Gordon told Lawler just weeks before he was arrested.

Gordon also claimed Delia had travelled to Mexico, Peru and Denmark.

Lawler said Gordon – who had lived with him for two years – told him: “Delia’s stole all my .”

He added that Delia had been “affectionate” to Gordon and that she would always give him a “big kiss on the cheek” whenever he cooked her a meal.

Lawler denied that Delia had been in “control” of Gordon and said the alleged killer was “exceptionally generous.”

In the weeks leading up to Delia’s death the prosecution alleges Gordon purchased tools consistent with her cause of death, including a sledgehammer and cordless handsaw.

He also bought a copy of surgical reference book Gray’s Anatomy.

After her death Gordon reportedly took thousands of pounds out of her bank accounts and obtained and loans in her name.

He is suspected of posing as Delia for some 18 months after she died – sending phone messages and emails to her friends and family in which he lied about her whereabouts.

Gordon is said to have spoken a lot about Delia to his niece, Paula Tillman.

Giving evidence today Tillman said Gordon was “a bit of a hoarder” and added that her uncle kept “lots of animals.”

Gordon allegedly once told his niece that Delia had hit him on the head with a frying pan – leaving him in hospital.

However Tillman said that Delia seemed like a “nice woman” and described her uncle as like “a giant teddy bear.”

Gordon began crying in the dock as his niece gave evidence.

The prosecution claims that the alleged killer’s “web of lies” began unravelling in December 2025 after a council official raised concerns with staff about Delia’s welfare.

A safeguarding was launched which led to Gordon, who jurors have been told has a previous conviction for fraud.

When police descended on Gordon’s home in January he told them “she is in the freezer.”

Gordon has admitted the concealment of Delia’s body and fraudulent financial activity after her death.

He denies charges of murder and causing unnecessary suffering to an animal.

The trial continues.
