A HEARTBROKEN family have paid tribute to their “amazing” dad after his tragic death, with cops launching a murder investigation.
Officers scrambled to the scene at Victoria Park in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, after a reports of a man in the river just before 8am on Wednesday.
The man in his 50s, who has been named as Adam Lucas, was declared dead by paramedics upon discovery.
A post-mortem examination on Thursday established that Adam had died from injuries which were consistent with an assault.
Adam’s family have been informed and continue to be supported by specially-trained officers.
In a statement issued via Warwickshire Police his family said: “We’re all shocked and heartbroken to hear the sad news of the sudden passing of our beloved Adam.
“He was an amazing and loved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and cousin.
“We kindly ask that he is kept in your thoughts and prayers while we try to navigate this as a family.”
Detective Inspector Gareth Unett said: “I understand this will be concerning for the local community, but I’d like to reassure them we have a team of detectives working to establish the full circumstances that led to the man’s death.
“We’re carrying out a number of enquiries including checking CCTV and will have officers in and around the park providing reassurance. If you have questions, please speak to them.
“We’d ask anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in the area from late Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning to come forward and share what they know.
“Finally, I’d ask people not to speculate online as this can cause unnecessary distress to the family and may impact our investigation.”
