NOEL GALLAGHER has revealed his shock at Manchester City being found guilty of 114 out of the 115 charges levelled at them by the Premier League.
But the superstar and City megafan does NOT believe that these verdicts taint moments like ‘s dramatic title-winning goal in 2012.
On Friday it emerged that of almost every charge levelled at them following an investigation dating back several years.
The sanctions have not yet been decided, although severe consequences could include points deductions, fines and even EXPULSION from the league – although City are set to appeal.
Following City’s shattering news, Gallagher appeared on the Let Me Talk podcast to share his feelings on the matter.
Giving his initial reaction, Gallagher, 59, said: “(I was) A little surprised when I heard it on the radio this afternoon, surprised only as the club has assured us all along that they vehemently denied any of these charges.
“So it was a bit of a shock to find out that we’ve been found guilty of all but one.
“But really, overall quite sad, really. sad for the fans and the players.”
Gallagher was then asked if the verdict makes him feel differently about his club’s achievements, including their dramatic title win in 2012, which was snatched from ‘s grasp courtesy of a last-gasp winner by Sergio Aguero.
Gallagher added: “Our focus as fans is always on the pitch, and we know what we saw, we know what we saw – they won it on the pitch.
“Whatever goes on in the boardrooms, it’s nothing to do with the supporters or the players.
“The players won that game and won that title on the pitch.
“Whether some of those players should have been there or not, that’s nothing to do with the fans.
“We were there, we know what we saw. Does it taint it? I suppose in the eyes of everyone else in England it would.
“But I know what I saw, and I know what I felt.”
The charges levelled at City are for alleged rue breaches between 2009 and 2018.
During the period of the charges, the club won three Premier League titles, the FA Cup twice, the League Cup four times and the Community Shield.
They won the title in 2011/12, 2013/14 and 2017/18. were runners up in the first and last of those title wins, while came second in 2013/14.
Those clubs could potentially be handed the title for those years, meaning and could add one more to his packed cabinet and then-United boss Jose Mourinho would add to the titles he won at .
It’s understood that a points deduction from when the decision is made is more likely.
A City spokesperson told The Athletic on Friday: “The Premier League process remains ongoing, with significant elements to be completed, and subject to strict confidentiality.
“As such Manchester City FC’s position remains consistent with the club’s statement of February 2023.
“The club has diligently respected due process for eight years on the basis the Premier League board and executive would behave as an independent, impartial and fair minded regulator, free from partisan influence.”
