The versatile midfielder began to draw comparisons to the legendary De Bruyne, 34, shortly after joining the Etihad.

Although the Netherlands international acknowledges that this is a “huge compliment,” he firmly believes he is not like the Napoli superstar, who completed a remarkable 10-year tenure with the Citizens last summer.

He revealed that the club made it clear upon his arrival that they do not expect him to fill the massive shoes of the Belgium international.

The Dutchman insists he views himself as an “all-round midfielder” who is more suited to the No. 8 role than the club's iconic No. 10.

Reijnders shared with Voetbal International: “After my debut against Wolves, analysts compared me to De Bruyne.

“That’s obviously a significant compliment. However, my role is different, and my qualities are distinct.

“City informed me of this from the beginning, and I have reiterated it many times: I am not the new De Bruyne.

“I’m an all-round midfielder, but I primarily see myself as a number eight.

“A box-to-box player, working between defense and attack. I enjoy being involved in the build-up and the final phase.

“My ability to frequently find myself in scoring positions is my greatest strength. Typically, I create at least two good chances per game.

“I may not be scoring as often as I did previously, but I am getting into the right positions.

“That’s where it all begins. I believe that the goals will come again.”
