Lewis Hawkes, 36, appeared in court on five counts of attempted murder linked to terrorism.
He was also charged with one count of assault and robbery, two counts of breach of the peace and two counts of culpable and reckless conduct.
These are all considered to be aggravated as they are connected to alleged terrorism, according to the Crown Prosecution Service.
Hawkes did not submit a plea at the hearing today.
He was committed for further examination and remanded in custody, ahead of another court appearance within eight days.
