A ‘VILE’ rapist who threw a woman out of a second storey window after brutally beating her, has been jailed for life.
Twisted Benjamin Coates, 42, violently kicked his victim’s head and face before trying to murder her.
The woman, who can’t be named for legal reasons, broke both her legs in the horror fall on December 11 last year.
She was found “covered in blood” after an evil campaign of “unimaginable suffering”.
were called after neighbours heard her chilling screams and she was rushed to hospital.
Doctors discovered she had been struggling with broken ribs for two weeks before the near-fatal attack.
An investigation found Coates had physically and emotionally controlled, beat, raped and strangled his victim across an eight month reign of terror from April until December 2024.
A jury found Coates guilty of attempted murder, five counts of rape, intentional strangulation, controlling coercive behaviour, threatening to share intimate images, and threats to kill at Portsmouth Crown Court.
The depraved rapist was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 19 years.
Elizabeth Medland, of the Crown Prosecution Service, told the court: “Benjamin Coates has now been exposed for who he truly is – a violent, manipulative, and controlling individual. His vile actions have had a tremendous impact on the victim’s life.
“It’s difficult to comprehend the unimaginable suffering this man has caused in his attempts to gain power over her.
“Coates used every trick in the book to prevent his behaviour coming to court, including threats to kill the victim and her family. He is now in a place where he can no longer cause harm to them.
“The use of emotional manipulation, physical control and sexual violence is utterly unacceptable, and the Crown Prosecution Service is dedicated to ensuring perpetrators are brought to justice.”
Detective Sergeant Lucia Davies of the Eastern Criminal Investigations Department, who led the investigation into the monster, said: “Benjamin Coates has received the only sentence appropriate for the unimaginable devastation and pain he has caused; a life behind bars.
“The depravity of the offences he has committed against the victim and her family are beyond words and I am glad that this dangerous man will not be able to subject any one else to this horrific behaviour.
“I cannot commend the victim enough for her bravery and courage in supporting us to bring this man to justice.”
She continued: “I can’t begin to imagine the effect this has had on her both mentally and physically, but she has been integral to getting the result we did today.
“We couldn’t have done it without her unwavering strength.
“I know that no sentence will ever turn back time and undo the damage Coates has done, but I hope that knowing he will never be free will eventually help her begin her journey to rebuilding her life.
“I understand that coming forward and reporting to us can feel impossibly difficult and scary, but to anyone who is in an abusive relationship of any kind, I promise you that if you bring this to us, you will be listened to, you will be heard and we will do everything in our power to ensure that the perpetrator is brought to justice.”
