While we saw them exchange emotional final vows earlier this week, and they were still together during the reunion episodes which are currently airing, we understand they parted ways in the summer,
Keye has now released a statement to reveal what happened to cause their shocking split.
He said he downloaded the dating app Grindr, while still with Davide, and their marriage broke down as a result.
Keye’s statement reads: “I downloaded Grindr in the early hours of a Sunday morning while Davide was on a flight. I wasn’t there looking to cheat, hook up, or find anyone else.
“I was in a really dark place back then, and I turned to something unhealthy because I didn’t know how to cope.
“It had nothing to do with wanting someone else, it was about trying to numb myself and escape what I was feeling.”
Keye continued: “I know how it looked, and I know it broke trust.
“Even if my intentions weren’t sexual, I still crossed a line. I hate that Davide thought I was out there looking for someone else, because that was never what I was doing.
“I was just lost, and I made a terrible decision. Davide found me with his profile and it cost me my marriage.”
It comes after a source told us this week: “Keye and Davide really wanted to make things work, and they do genuinely adore each other, but sadly they couldn’t make their relationship last in the outside world.
“There were several factors at play, they had quite different lifestyles, with Keye still enjoying London‘s party scene and Davide preferring a quieter life in Horsham.
“But ultimately there were also trust issues that reared their head once they were outside the experiment. Davide suspected Keye of using apps while they were together, and that caused a real divide between them.
“Their friends were really hoping they would work it out, as they were on and off for a while, but it seems like things are fully done now.
“They aren’t even following each other on social media anymore.”
The Sun has approached for comment.
Davide and Keye had regularly been regarded as one of the experiment’s strongest couples and went from strength to strength during their time on the show.
They hit it off at the beginning and barely faced any bumps in the road.
During the emotional final rows, Davide said to Keye: “I have never had anyone make me feel as wanted and desired as you do.
“There definitely have been moments where you have been loud. But not because of your way of being, but because of the way you show me your love.”
Eyebrows were raised earlier this week when Keye failed to confirm if they were still together.
Fans had questioned why, on social media, Keye and Davide never answered fan questions directly when asked about their romance, but would instead respond with heart emojis.
Then Keye, while being grilled by star HardZillaa.
Blushing at the question, he laughed and teased: “You know I can’t answer that question. But what I can tell you is we are both very happy.
“I just can’t confirm or deny whether that is individually or together.”
When one of the hosts joked they could “see it in his eyes” Keye said: “All you can see in my eyes is love, and that could just be self-love.”
