A MAJOR motorway has been shut in both directions after a serious crash.

Both carriageways of the M5 between junction 13, for Stroud, and junction 14, for Dursley/Falfield, are shut to motorists.

According to National Highways, drivers nearby should expect delays of at least an hour.

The M5 slip road to the M6 northbound is also suffering from severe congestion, with delays of up to 10 minutes.

The southbound entry slip at junction 13 will have delays until 3.45pm.

Emergency services scrambled to the scene close to Michaelwood Services at around 11.40 today.

National Highways posted on X: “Due to an ongoing Gloucestershire led incident, the M5 is now closed in both directions between J14 (Dursley) and J13 (Stroud).

“Traffic Officers are on scene to assist with strategic closures on the approach. The road is likely to remain closed throughout the day.”

Cops added: “We’ve closed both carriageways of the M5 between junctions 13 for Stroud and 14 for Dursley/Falfield due to a serious collision.

“More updates will be shared once possible.”
