A MAJOR motorway has been forced to close after a horror smash and car fire – sparking commuter chaos.

Drivers travelling on the M5 have been warned it will be shut for “several hours” following the crash near Rubery, West Midlands, last night.

A National Highways spokesperson said: “A full Police Accident Investigation is taking place.

“Once the Police Accident Investigation is complete, vehicle recovery will take place and any carriageway damage will need to be assessed.

“If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time.

“Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey.”
