THE M40 has been closed after a multi-vehicle crash sparked traffic chaos, with drivers warned to expect long delays.
National Highways said the motorway remains shut southbound between Junction 16 at Hockley Heath and Junction 15 at Warwick following the smash in the early hours.
Two of the three lanes are also closed on the northbound carriageway while emergency services deal with the incident.
Motorists are facing delays of around 30 minutes, with congestion stretching for two miles on the approach to the closure.
National Highways said: “The M40 remains closed south between J16 Hockley Heath and J15 Warwick following a multi-vehicle collision.
“Lanes 2 and 3 of 3 remain closed north.
“Delays building, currently 30 minutes and two miles of congestion on the approach.
“Please plan ahead.”
